Full calibration

Acquire the sequence

  1. Configure input and wall output. Choose the camera's native gamut for the new run, then create a New Run under Calibration.
  2. Use the guided Next button to Generate Patterns. Advanced Actions exposes individual jobs and patch selection when needed.
  3. Expose the camera using the OpenVPCal opening slate. Its exposure patch is half bright and the pinned engine compensates internally. Lock camera WB, exposure, shutter, lens, position and processor processing for the run.
  4. For live capture, start camera preview and wall output, then use Capture Missing Patches. Accepted captures are retained if you stop or lose input.
  5. Alternatively, import a complete timed recording from frame one, apply Input Color and use Import Recording. Include the opening markers and full sequence; trimming or reordering can prevent detection.

For manual region selection, include the full central calibration patch and its chart while excluding the black surround. A small gray-only Quick Balance region is unsuitable for full calibration.

Review and calculate

Choose Analyze Captures, then review Results → Quality Checks. A failed or unavailable check blocks guided calculation. Warnings need interpretation: low color error can indicate that calibration is unnecessary.

Use Retry Analysis after correcting ROI/detection settings. Sources and the comparison baseline remain saved; analysis and downstream correction/export/ processor results stop being current immediately. Earlier job files remain on disk. If pixels are clipped or the actual setup changed, take a new measurement or restore the saved setup instead of repeatedly retrying the same material.

Continue through Calculate Correction, Export Correction, and Build SX40 LUT. The guide then opens Results. Processor Apply remains separate.

Page Meaning
Quality Checks Engine findings and specific recovery guidance.
Gray Response Measured/reference RGB ratios; dotted target is 1, black is omitted.
Color Accuracy Camera ColorChecker Delta E ITP and mean RGBW/ramp/chart errors.
Measurement Comparison Baseline versus a separate newer camera measurement.
Processor Approximation Independent residuals for the 17³/12-bit LUT and 14-way/curves model.

Fit 14-way + Curves creates the alternate numerical model. A poor fit is shown as outside limits and cannot be applied as calibration. The native HSV band/curve model still needs physical validation. Numerical eligibility is not proof of improved wall response.

Proceed to Apply and remeasure for a processor field test.
